Wi-Fi Router Deals: Current Prices on Wi-Fi 6 and 7
A single router is still the right choice when your space is compact or your existing coverage is fine and you simply want more speed or newer features. Check three things before buying. First, the WAN port: your router cannot be faster than the port your internet arrives on, so a gigabit-plus plan needs a 2.5G or 10G WAN port. Second, wired LAN: count the devices you will plug in and the speeds they need. Third, the standard: Wi-Fi 7 and 6E add the 6 GHz band, which matters most with a fast plan and modern devices.

Router buying questions
- Router or mesh: which one do I need?
- If your current coverage reaches every room and you just want more speed, a router is simpler and cheaper. If some rooms are dead zones, no router fixes physics; that is a coverage problem and a mesh system or an extender addresses it directly.
- What does a 2.5G or 10G port actually get me?
- It removes the gigabit ceiling between your modem and the router, and between the router and a fast wired device such as a NAS. On internet plans of 1 Gbps or less, standard gigabit ports are not the bottleneck.
- Will a new router work with my ISP modem?
- Routers here plug into any modem or ISP gateway with an Ethernet WAN port. If your ISP box is a combined modem-router, set it to bridge or modem mode where possible so the new router handles the network; otherwise double NAT can complicate port forwarding and gaming.
- Do VPN features need special hardware?
- Running a VPN on the router encrypts traffic for every device, but throughput depends on the router's processor. The GL.iNet models listed here publish their measured WireGuard and OpenVPN speeds, which is the honest way to compare; most consumer routers do not.
