Overview
The ASUS RT-BE88U is a Wi-Fi 7 router that covers 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, without 6 GHz support. It stands out for its wired side, with 10 Ethernet ports and 10 Gbps maximum Ethernet speed, plus a USB port and wired backhaul support.
Who it suits
This router suits households or small offices that need a lot of wired connections and fast local networking, such as NAS setups or multiple desktops. It is also suited to ASUS AiMesh users who want to add a strong wired node to an existing AiMesh setup.
Reasons to consider it
It offers 10 Ethernet ports and 10 Gbps max Ethernet speed, which supports demanding wired setups. Wired backhaul support and AiMesh compatibility let it work as part of a multi-node ASUS mesh system. Multiple operating modes, including access point, media bridge, and repeater, add flexibility for different network layouts.
Limitations and compatibility checks
There is no 6 GHz band, so this is a dual-band rather than tri-band Wi-Fi 7 device. AiMesh only works with other ASUS AiMesh hardware, so it will not interoperate with other brands' mesh systems.
