A SIM router takes a mobile data SIM and shares that connection over Wi-Fi and Ethernet, which suits places where fixed-line broadband is poor, temporary sites, and homes that want a backup when the main line drops. Check three things. First, the bands your network uses, because a device missing them will underperform regardless of its rating. Second, single or dual SIM: dual-SIM models hold two accounts and can switch between them, which is the point of them. Third, the antennas, since external connectors matter more than headline speed in weak-signal places.

SIM router questions
- What does dual SIM actually give me?
- Two accounts in one device. Depending on the model that means automatic failover when one network drops, or choosing per-network for cost and coverage. Only one SIM is usually active at a time. If one network is weak where you live, a second carrier is often a bigger improvement than a faster device.
- Is a SIM router the same as a travel router?
- No, and this matters. A travel router has no SIM slot: it shares a connection you already have, such as hotel Wi-Fi. A SIM router creates the connection itself from mobile data. We keep them in separate categories because buying the wrong one leaves you with no internet at all.
- Will 5G be faster than my fixed line?
- Sometimes, and it depends entirely on local coverage and how busy the mast is, not on the device. Treat advertised peak rates as laboratory figures. Where fixed broadband is slow or unavailable, mobile often wins; where fibre is available, it usually does not.
- Can I use one as a backup line?
