Overview
The TP-Link RE700X is a Wi-Fi 6 range extender that works over 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. It plugs directly into a wall socket and includes a single Gigabit Ethernet port, and it can also operate as an access point.
Who it suits
This is suited to people looking to extend the coverage of an existing Wi-Fi network rather than replace their router. It fits households that want a simple plug-in device with Wi-Fi 6 support and the option of a single wired connection for a nearby device.
Reasons to consider it
It supports Wi-Fi 6 on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, which can help with connecting modern devices. The single Gigabit Ethernet port allows one wired device to connect through the extender, and it can be switched to access point mode if needed.
Limitations and compatibility checks
There is no 6 GHz band support, so this is not a tri-band or Wi-Fi 6E device. Only one Ethernet port is available, and there is no wired backhaul support, so connection back to the main router relies on wireless signal.
