Overview
The Netgear Nighthawk CAX80 is a Wi-Fi 6 cable modem router combo with a built-in DOCSIS 3.1 modem, rated AX6000 class. It covers 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands only, with no 6 GHz support, and has 4 Ethernet ports at up to 1 Gbps plus 1 USB port.
Who it suits
This is suited to US households on cable internet who want a single device combining modem and router rather than separate units. It fits users who need gigabit wired ports for a handful of devices and don't require 6 GHz Wi-Fi.
Reasons to consider it
It includes a built-in DOCSIS 3.1 modem, which removes the need for a separate modem on cable plans. It offers 4 Ethernet ports at 1 Gbps and a USB port for local connections, and is built to AX6000 class Wi-Fi 6 specifications.
Limitations and compatibility checks
There is no 6 GHz band support, so it cannot use the newer, less congested spectrum some other Wi-Fi 6 devices offer. The built-in modem only works with US cable providers and is not meant for fibre connections or bundled voice service, and wired backhaul for mesh expansion is not supported.
