The AVM FRITZ!Box 6690 Cable is a cable modem router with built-in DOCSIS 3.1 support up to 6 Gbit/s and Wi-Fi 6 across dual 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. It includes 4 Ethernet ports with speeds up to 2.5 Gbps, a USB port, wired backhaul support, and an integrated DECT base station for telephony.
This router is suited to households on cable internet plans who want a single device handling modem, Wi-Fi 6 routing, and home phone (DECT) duties. It fits users who want wired backhaul options or a 2.5 Gbps port for a fast local device, rather than those needing 6 GHz band support.
The built-in DOCSIS 3.1 modem removes the need for a separate modem on cable connections. Wi-Fi 6 on dual bands plus 4 Ethernet ports (including 2.5 Gbps) supports a mix of wireless and wired devices. The DECT base station adds telephony without extra hardware, and wired backhaul is available for mesh setups.
There is no 6 GHz band, so it only runs dual-band Wi-Fi rather than tri-band Wi-Fi 6E or 7. Mesh expansion is limited to AVM's own FRITZ! Mesh ecosystem, so it won't interoperate with mesh systems from other brands.
