Overview
The Netgear Nighthawk EAX12 is a Wi-Fi 6 range extender that works on dual-band (2.4 + 5 GHz) networks. It has one Ethernet port rated up to 1 Gbps and plugs directly into a wall outlet, and it can run as a range extender or as an access point.
Who it suits
This suits someone who already has a Wi-Fi router and wants to extend its existing coverage into another area, rather than someone looking for a mesh system with wired backhaul. It is also suited to users who want the option to run the device as a standalone access point.
Reasons to consider it
It supports Wi-Fi 6, which can help with speed and device handling on compatible networks, and dual-band operation gives it flexibility between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. The single Gigabit Ethernet port allows one wired device to be connected if the extender is used in access point mode.
Limitations and compatibility checks
There is no 6 GHz band support, no wired backhaul, no USB port, and no PoE, and only a single Ethernet port is available, so wired connectivity options are limited.
