Overview
The FRITZ!Box 6850 4G is a cellular router from AVM that uses a nano-SIM card and 4G LTE to provide internet access without a fixed line. It supports Wi-Fi 5 across dual 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, includes 4 Ethernet ports rated at 1 Gbps, and doubles as a DECT base station for cordless phones.
Who it suits
This router is suited to households that lack a fixed broadband line and need internet access through a mobile SIM card instead. It may also suit users who want a DECT base station for cordless handsets alongside their internet connection.
Reasons to consider it
It runs on 4G LTE via a single nano-SIM, so no fixed-line installation is needed. It offers 4 Ethernet ports at up to 1 Gbps for wired devices, and dual-band Wi-Fi 5 for wireless connections. The built-in DECT base station adds phone functionality without extra hardware.
Limitations and compatibility checks
There is no 6 GHz band support, no USB port, no PoE, and no wired backhaul option. It fits into AVM's own FRITZ! Mesh ecosystem, so it won't interoperate with mesh systems from other brands.
